What is an infrastructure assessment?
An infrastructure assessment reviews the relevant parts of your existing environment, requirements and future plans to identify considerations that may influence your next decision. The scope depends on the assessment from AI readiness and virtualisation to power infrastructure.
What information do we need before starting an assessment?
You should have a working understanding of your current environment and the area you want to assess. Depending on the assessment, this may include your existing infrastructure, workloads, capacity, platform, power environment or future requirements.
You don’t need to have every answer or have already decided on the solution. The assessment helps identify what needs closer examination and what should be considered before moving forward.
When is an infrastructure assessment useful?
An assessment can be useful when you’re planning a change, reviewing an existing environment or validating a decision before committing to a project.
You may already have a preferred direction, or you may be comparing options. The purpose is to make sure the decision is informed by the requirements and constraints of your actual environment.
Does a VMware Migration Assessment mean we need to move away from VMware?
No. Moving away from VMware isn’t automatically the right outcome.
The assessment reviews your current VMware environment, workloads, dependencies and requirements to help determine whether remaining with VMware, optimising the existing environment or considering an alternative platform makes the most sense.
Do we need to have an AI project ready before completing an AI Readiness Assessment?
No, but you should have an understanding of what your organisation is considering AI for and the types of workloads or use cases being explored.
The assessment looks at whether the supporting infrastructure including compute, storage, networking, power and cooling aligns with those requirements and where further planning may be needed.
Is a Power Infrastructure Assessment only necessary if we're already experiencing power problems?
No. Power infrastructure is worth assessing before problems appear, particularly when you’re planning infrastructure growth, higher-density equipment, AI workloads, a hardware refresh or other changes that may affect power demand.
The assessment considers areas such as UPS capacity, runtime, rack power and resilience to identify whether the current environment can support existing and future requirements.

What happens next depends on the findings.
The assessment helps identify relevant gaps, risks and considerations so you can determine the appropriate next step. That may mean further investigation, optimisation, proceeding with a planned project, considering alternative options or confirming that the existing approach remains appropriate.
