A VMware Migration Assessment is an independent evaluation of your existing VMware environment, infrastructure and business requirements. It helps determine whether migration is appropriate, evaluates the virtualisation options available to your organisation and provides practical recommendations based on your environment and requirements.
Do we need to have already decided to migrate away from VMware?
No. The assessment is designed to help determine whether migration is the right decision in the first place. Your existing VMware environment may remain the most appropriate option, or the assessment may identify reasons to consider an alternative platform.
Which areas of our VMware environment are assessed?
The assessment reviews your VMware and virtualisation environment alongside the infrastructure that supports it, including compute, storage, networking, backup and recovery, and physical infrastructure. It also considers hardware lifecycle, operational and support requirements, internal skills, business requirements and migration dependencies.
How does Focus Group Technologies determine which virtualisation platform to recommend?
Recommendations are based on evidence gathered from your environment and requirements. This may include automated discovery, platform and documentation reviews, physical infrastructure inspection and stakeholder discussions. The findings are then considered against vendor guidance and recognised industry best practices.
What will we receive at the end of the assessment?
You will receive an executive summary, migration readiness assessment, platform recommendation, technical findings and a prioritised roadmap. The findings are also presented to relevant stakeholders, and if a change is recommended, an implementation proposal can be provided outlining the proposed solution, project scope and indicative pricing.
Will the assessment help us understand the complexity of migrating from VMware?
